Today, I completely mechanically overhaul my Mercedes-Benz S600, that I had basically abandoned for over a year. And spoiler alert, it's way more expensive than I thought.

In my country there is one old saying and goes like this when you buy merc you are only happy twice (once when you buy it and onve when you sell it),look at the face of hoovie when he sold you this piece of crap,to be honest tavarish the s class was waiting for better days until you get enough money to repair it and finally when you repair it oversudden it will fall again this all new mercs are unrepairable they are barrels without bottom and i think hoovie was very happy when he sold this s-class to you, this car is good for spares as well as old mercs. Best regards from old world

Sounds crazy, I know.. but dude, you're pouring your oil out of the jug the wrong way. The spout goes on the top side. Doing so allows one to tilt the jug further before oil comes out, and also it won't glug as bad, or sometimes it won't glug at all... Otherwise, pro pour bro. Pro pour.

Tavarish you are funny ... The dealer wanted 10 thousand dolars so you did it yourself and spent 20 thousand dolars in the repairs ...

  • himbimbly

Hey Freddie, you very well may have come to this conclusion already but I believe there might be a problem with your trunk lid switch, you may be able to push or pull it one way to take it out of service mode. I believe it was designed for testing at the rear fuse box when you need the car to think the trunk is specifically open or closed. Otherwise I would suspect an electrical fault, I think it should go to the rear SAM. This is just a quick thought I had, coming from a Benz tech. In any case, that's an awesome car and I enjoyed seeing the V12 apart. One last thing I wanted to say was that usually the assyst menu is accessed from the 1st ignition position and I didn't hear you mention that. Maybe it's different but it could be an important detail to someone with a similar vehicle.

German engineers are so smart. They design these expensive high-end cars to need extensive repairs at a certain time so the owner doesn’t want to bother with it and just buys the newest model. They could engineer these cars to last much longer with much less repairs but that’s just not good for their business. Genius! I guess it’s not the engineers, but whoever is calling the shots up top.

Servicing on BMW Mercedes Audi in the USA is expensive due to the relative scarcity of the top notch Mechanics you need to do a good job. Such Mechanics are relatively commonplace in Europe due to the better education system and apprentice schemes Europe has, that's why I bought a Ford when I moved to the USA, simple to maintain, cheap spare parts and Ford Mechanics are a dime a dozen !

  • Timothy Kittle
    Timothy Kittle

Next time take an air blower to the motor first before removing the coil packs. At 140k no other maintenance. Tune up 100k. So u got and extra 40k. I know you only put premium gas and that makes all the difference. If you take the cost of the car let's say you have a $50k car full tune coil packs with oe parts. About $1000 in parts. You should really use a torque wrench on plugs on that motor. I never use to but after Dyno tuning you wouldn't believe the problems that come up because the plugs are not in the cylinders the same depth. Overall nice job

I always buy tires in even numbers. Never an odd tire. Anywho, I daily a 600hp long as I am disciplined with the right foot she gets around 16-17mpg. Even with the gas prices going up, I won't stop. Can't wait until we get a president that will help us out with gas prices. That would be nice...a president who secures our borders, ensures healthcare is accessible for all, takes American interests more serious than other countries(the same as the other countries take their own self interests above other countries), reduces taxes for the less fortunate all while increasing Americans GDP...ahh, sounds like a dream!!!

Never. Ever. Ever. Get insurance just because it's "cheap". Read the policy and make sure it really fits your needs. Especially in today's "get rich by suing" world we live in. Ask me how I know.

  • MrTilbin

Insurance has nothing to do with value of the car, but the statistics on how often an insurance company pays out on them. Higher value cars there are less of, and the people that can buy them typically drive more conservatively than say a mass produced cheaper car typically driven by younger drivers.

  • MrTilbin

Those pesky dealers that see the same cars with the same problems day in and day out and have all the proper tools, training, and diagnostic equipment.

  • Pete Finch

Probably not mentioned too much in the comments, but I'm really digging the montage music of late brother!

  • MrRemmington

Amazing such a good diagnostician of course experienced. Notwithstanding, You’ve made it very clear that it’s a bad idea to own such a beast. Lease only, never own if you need that image, I’m driving a Benz. BMW is just as pathetic and Audi. It is very exciting when you fix things in the car and it actually works. But this is due to your great knowledge and insight. We are all different, reliability and build quality is number one for me. Ostensibly, I love Mercedes, I just would never own one, again. European cars are built to be disposable, that’s what it comes down to unfortunately.
